Sneak Peek: STYLE UNION

To my fashionable readers,

I’m proud to announce STYLE UNION, my collaboration with 3JAINS, a young fashion powerhouse trio. We have designed a luscious new knitwear collection made for the modern woman who feels fit and fabulous, is a little rough around the edges, and is a die-hard romantic. She’s not afraid to put on her boxing gloves, but likes her bed of roses too.

STYLE UNION is designed and made in Los Angeles and combines ultra-luxe fabrics, wear it again (and again!) pieces, and flattering details that will become your next closet staples.

I’ll stop there, since I don’t want to give too much away. Without further ado, below is a sneak peek of some of the upcoming designs for STYLE UNION. Releasing in 2017.

GenHERation: Lessons from the SoGal Startup Bootcamp

Love this article from Carina O., a GenHERation member, on the #IAmSoGal Summit, where I spoke about business and fashion during a Fireside Chat.

GenHERation SoGal Bootcamp

My fireside chat! Photo by @SoGal.

From the article:

During a long first month of my senior year, I began to get caught in a routine and schedule on the weekends with loads of homework, lack of sleep, and no social life. While I could have stayed home for another weekend, I instead
opted to attend the SoGal Startup Bootcamp in Los Angeles alongside GenHERation Founder & CEO Katlyn Grasso and two other local high school girls, Rebecca K. and Jessica A., on Sept. 25 and 26. The two-day event touched on topics of entrepreneurship, technology, and diversity – three topics that I am passionate about – but most importantly, the event was targeted towards women.

Interview with Kym Gold: “Women in Business” from Fashion Times

Fashion Times Logo Kym Gold

Thank you Fashion Times.  This was a pleasure to do!

From Fashion Times:

Kym Gold co-founded True Religion Brand Jeans in 2002 with her then-husband Jeff Lubell.

While the designer denim brand’s popularity skyrocketed, Gold’s marriage fell apart. She’s stayed quiet for years, but now, the fashionable businesswoman has decided to open up about her time at True Religion, her failed marriage and how the two are related in a forthcoming book called “Gold Standard: How to Rock the World and Run an Empire,” which is slated to be released next month.

In the book, Gold discusses everything from her first fashion job selling old T-shirts on a beach to how she feels she was pushed out of a company she helped create (Gold left True Religion in 2007, the same year she was served divorce papers by her husband).

In a recent interview with Gold, which you can read in full below, we asked the business woman what she learned while at True Religion, why her new book is a must-read, what advice she has for working women and much more.

What’s New for Fall Fashion 2015 and How Can I Update My Jeans?

Fall fashion 2015: Denim is always in, but the way denim is cut always changes. Flared, skinny, boot-cut—there’s tons of different types of jeans out there! I’ve noticed that cropped flared pants are in for the Fall 2015 season. How do you take an old pair of jeans and make them fresh for this season?

If you have an older pair of jeans, you can cut the bottom off and let them fray. This gives a modern edge to the pant.

Adding a cool trim or fun fabric on the pocket—or stitching a simple criss-cross pattern on the pant somewhere—gives you a great opportunity to display your own originality!

Fashion Week Brooklyn hosted their Fall 2015 activities in June, and their theme was “Denim Walk.” It’s always about the three basic fits: the skinny, the flair, and the boyfriend. Women are able to choose the style they like, and that fits their body type. Jeans today have a myriad of washes, like rinse, destroyed, patched. Gray is a big color for jeans this fall, and lighter washes, denim trench coats, and denim suiting are also in fashion.

When it comes to the rest of fall fashion, young designers are taking more risks and pushing the boundaries on what is the “Now Trends” of today. I’ve seen the runways full of the “Madcap Aristocrat” with heavy layering of old and new fabrics mixed together; I’ve also seen the edgy, retro glam/“Rebel Yell” look and feel.
Readers and fashionable spirits, I’d like to see how you refurbished your jeans to make them stylish again for fall fashion—tweet your updated jeans wear photos at @kym_gold!

Fashion Imitates Life

There’s the saying that fashion imitates life, but I don’t just live fashion—I create it, breathe it, and surround myself with it.

My adventures in the Los Angeles-area fashion industry have had their ups and downs, but overall my time working with clothing and accessories has been an extraordinary journey. I have had the satisfaction of seeing my small business venture become a billion-dollar luxury jeans wear company; but I have also dealt with the struggle of being the only woman in a male-dominated board room meeting, fighting to have her creative opinions heard.

After 30 years in the fashion industry, I am now mentoring and working with new and up-and-coming designers to achieve their own success in a field that can be extremely difficult to find your voice. But I also want to inspire people like you, who may have an aspiration in starting your own company, whether it be fashion or a coffee shop or a tech start-up.

So I introduce to you my blog, right here at kymgold.com, where you will find motivational advice, current events, DIY projects, information about my new book, Gold Standard, and maybe even a throwback photo or two. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing some creative and inspiring moments.
